The FIFA Women’s World Cup is a quadrennial event which also serves as a chance to celebrate the multitude of women around the globe who play football. The once-every-four-years event also serves as a reminder that women also have a place in sports, an industry that is dominated by men.

Inequality in sports industry

While we celebrate the athleticism of these top athletes and national teams, it is also the chance to ponder on the fact that these women in many nations, fight for their rights to play on the pitch. The Singaporepool football result is a testimony of this.

Even for the once who are already a professional player, they face discrimination, threats, unfair compensation, and sexual harassment.

As a result, FIFA declared a human rights policy that commits on providing equal rights for women to play in the sport and protect them from any discriminaion and harassment in all of the sporting activities that they are a part of. However, despite this move by the world football governing body, the fight is not over.

It was reported that in the 2019 Women’s World Cup, the teams are battling for the prize that was only 7.6% the amount of reward that was given to the winners of 2018 Men’s World Cup.

What needs to be done?

We are now in the era where the global retribution against abuse, discrimiantion and mistreatment of women in the corporate world is possible. However, a lot of organisations also hope that this global movement of retribution also extends in the industry of sports and sports betting.

The world of sports clearly needs to accept and promote human rights policies to ensure that permanent changes will occur to allow women in sports to play, get compensated fairly and to have a safe space where they can express their skills.

Women in sports have been very outspoken regarding their right to play any kind of sports and to receive fair treatment as a professional athlete. This would not be possible if the federation itself does not support this call.

FIFA’s steps to promote equality

FIFA collaborated with UN Women to promote gender equality around the world during the first Women’s Convention of the football governing body in 2019.

According to FIFA President Gianni Infantino in the two-day convention, the organisation is committed to promoting human rights.

He said, “It is true that FIFA is an international organisation that has an objective to promote the sport of football and online betting Singapore around the world, however, we also uphold the importance of social responsibility as well.”

“Sports provided us the platform to have multiple opportunities to change the world by being the catalyst to develop gender equality. Having the authority over international sporting activities, we could use our influence to fight inequality and boost fairness in the sports world,” he added.

Following the first ever Women’s Football Convention organized by FIFA, Infantino addressed some of the issues in the past of the governing body regarding gender inequality and discrimination.

According to Infantino, FIFA will be pledging $500 million to women’s football. The governing body stated that the budget will be spent in the development of women’s football, youth tournaments, training camps, and efforts to protect the rights of women in the sport. He also said that the prize money for the next Women’s World Cup will increase to $50 million.

Conclusion

By addressing the issues that are already plaguing the world of sports for years, FIFA made the first step to solve these social problems. The collaboration of the government body with the United Nations could also strengthen their cause. Let’s just hope that the Women’s World Cup in 2023 will enforce gender rights practices and bet now for better Singapore pools odds.
